Hostels: Not the Only Cheap Accommodation
By Courtney S. RiesWhen people think of hostels, a number of pictures pop into their minds: that of large rooms or backpackers or shared showers. However, just because something is classified as a hostel, it doesn't mean you'll be sleeping with 20 of your closest friends or going without breakfast. Hostel standards - and options - vary wildly. The hostels in Paris France list include accommodations with B&B, hotel and apartment in the title - so what gives?
Nowadays, the word 'hostel' generally means accommodation that is cheaper than a 5-star hostel. Some places that list themselves as hostels may actually be closer to B&Bs, with made to order breakfast, or hotels, with bathrooms in every room. Someone who is less familiar with, for example the options hostels in Seattle offer may prefer amenities they never considered cheap accommodation would include.
When looking for cheap accommodation, don't get hung up on the word 'hostel'. Although you may discover a property that lists itself as a hostel may have all the amenities you wish, other properties may be available in the location that you wish to stay, at similar prices. Check out Differences Between Accommodations to learn more about the general differences between accommodations and what a room classification means.
